Wayne was Boared

April 26th, 2007

We went to Pengerang over the weekend, and it was from BOARBORING, here’s how the day unfolded. The first part dictated by Wayne…

We got off to an early morning start at Changi Ferry Terminal and then proceeded to catch a 1 hour bumboat ride across to Pengerang. After the whole gang was rounded up, we made out way towards Sungei Rengit Town.

We were told that we would be taking the “off-road” way there but it was mainly mixed tarmac and fire roads with a bit of climbs (2 to be exact) and mostly flat terrain. We were cycling through the oil palm plantations and some back roads when tragedy struck.

The group was divided into three packs. The front group were all the navigators and path finders, the middle were the sight seekers and the last, leisure riders. Mid-ride, Angela came round the corner to see the whole group gathered around me and Max on the floor. There was an attack…by a wild boar!

The wild boar charged out of the vegetation and my bike took the full brunt of its impact while Max got some if its deflection as it ploughed through the both of us.

Thank goodness for all those mountain bike magazines he has been reading, he knew the correct method of falling by tucking his head inwards and rolling. Although he did get thrown off the bike, and hit the ground head first, he was very much in one piece.

Wayne seemed a bit stunned and aside from some bruises and cuts, he didn’t seem to be too seriously hurt. However, little could be said about his wheelset, front disc brakes and helmet.

After a quick MacGyver fix of the wheelset and removal of the front brake (yes he rode the remaining 20km plus with one brake and a broke wheelset!), we were off.

I’ll save you the long story of how the rest of the trip went; you can get the idea by looking at the pictures.

More Pictures in the April 2007 Album.

And of course a video that summarises the whole trip in 5 mins

Honestly poor guy (the Boar), i hope its not too badly hurt. The impact was seriously huge! It felt like i got hit by a truck. What are the chances of something like that hitting you while riding??

Ooh man! talk about bad luck!! *gulp*
Damn boars!! We always joke about that happening around our trails here (cos we always see the ruffeled up ground they cause), but i never thought someone i know would end up being run down by a boar :o

Well, hope everything is fixed and OK by now :D

LOL! The “boaring” jokes keep getting better and better. I was in stitches by the end of Ling’s slideshow. When I saw Wayne’s bloodied disc rotor, the 1st thing that crossed my mind was, “Woah! Organic bak kua!”

An unidentified source revealed that the boar frequently hung out with these two squirrels:

    Squirrel 1: Exhibit A and Exhibit B.
    Squirrel 2: Exhibit C.

    Glad you guys are OK!
(Did you buy lottery? :-) )

Hey Shawn, do you know any shops in Malaysia that have the Hope Floating Disc Rotors in Gold??? I’m looking for 160mm ones. Sold out in Singapore at the moment and i maybe forced to order through the net. On that note do you know websites that sell these rotors or have international shipping???
