How to keep your coffee hot

March 30th, 2009 9 comments

Clearing my drafts, here’s one I wrote awhile back on ways to keep your coffee hot.

There’s nothing worse than having a luke-warm or cold coffee on your pallet. It makes no difference that we enjoy the warmer climate, my office still feels like a fridge from 9-6 everyday.

So what can we do to keep our coffee warm?

I tried using the insulated mug from coffeebean, but it doesn’t seem to be doing the trick. My hot drinks takes less than an hour to go lukewarm.

It would be a hassle, but maybe using a thermal mug will keep the coffee warm longest. When I’m ready to drink some, pour it out in portions.

After I tweeted my frustration, a reader sent me this link to a USB coffee warmer.

usb_cup_warmer

The unit plugs into any USB port of the computer or powered laptop and runs off the standard 5VDC feed of the port and uses only 2.5watts of power.

Features:
* Hotplate heating temperature of 80 to 110 Degrees
* Quick Heatup Cycle of 5 to 8 minutes
* Includes an on/off switch and an indicator light to show its working.
* Full 2 year warranty and guarantee
* NEW – Includes Stainless Steel Cup and Cap

Ideal for warming ceramic cups, metal cups and properly rated glass cups.

Anyone have one of these? And do they really work? Does it “burn” your coffee after awhile?

adidas house party 2009

March 30th, 2009 7 comments

Last month, adidas hosted a fantastic house party at the Timberlux warehouse to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the iconic 3-Stripes mark introduced by company founder Adi Dassler. The worldwide campaign encapsulated the cool and trendy factor with a fantastic TVC “invitation” which is available to watch on their website. Loved it and managed to find it on youtube.

The local house party was really well planned and executed, not forgetting brilliantly designed. When you walk in, you’re welcomed with a visual history snippets with pictures on the walls, frames, all in the style of someone’s living room. It was literally like a house party. Shelves were decorated with trophies, photos, candles.

Let me list the “I Likes”
- The shoes hanging from the ceiling, which made it look like a feature wall ceiling
- Free flow (FF) Blue candy floss and drinks
- FF Frolick Yoghurt and popcorn. (I’m actually really starting to like yoghurt more than ice-cream. It’s a healthier alternative if you keep the toppings to fruits. Frolick is like a Pinkberry for those more familiar with that name)
- FF Tiger
- The DJ table which stood inside a ginormous shoebox
- adidas styled vespas
- catching up with old friends
- meeting new friends
- liked how everyone made an effort to dress adidas or at least brand neutral

I leave you with a collage of photos from the night.

Viva la Vida

Coldplay’s concert two years ago was absolutely fantastic, so I wouldn’t expect anything less for the 2009 tour. Being a bit cash-strapped, I decided not to go. So I watched the sections on the sistic website turn red one by one. Within a day or so, all tickets were sold out.

Weeks went by, and I suddenly felt a pang of regret for not getting myself a ticket. So I resorted to listening to their music on my ipod all month, in hopes I’d get so sick of their songs I wouldn’t feel so bad missing their show.

To cut the long story short, I got a call from Danli 1.5hrs before the show asking if I’d like to go to Coldplay, because C+1 couldn’t make it.

“Hell yeah! I’m there!”

Showered and dressed in record time, I picked up Danli, Evan and Karen from Bugis and we all headed to the Singapore Indoor Stadium together.

The best part? Only found out when we saw the tickets, we got row 2 seats! OMG ROW 2! We were so close to them, it felt almost surreal.

It was undoubtedly the best concert I’ve been to.

All in all, it was a fantastic evening, they played all their greatest hits and new songs from their Viva la Vida album.

I especially love how they keep the crowds engaged throughout the evening, either through gimmicks, videos, visuals but also their use of stage space.

My favourite moment would have to be the butterfly confetti shower.

I wish I had a better camera to take better photos. All these photos were taken from my canon point-and-shoot.

Posted here are all the best shots I got, the rest were very “noisy” due to the high ISO. Tough compromise.

So would I pay to see them again in 2 years time? Definitely.

Here’s a video compilation of my amazing night with Coldplay.

New MTB video for march

March 22nd, 2009 6 comments

It’s great to be back on the saddle. I’m reminded why I fell in love with the sport to begin with.

I swear it wasn’t planned, but all the girls happened to be in blue that morning :)

Here’s the latest addition to the Blursotong productions. Two Pulau Ubin rides edited into one video, watch in HD if you have the bandwidth, less grainy. Enjoy!

Running gear

March 19th, 2009 5 comments

Went for a slow run this morning down the canal jogging track and there were two ladies wearing the same top as me. I guess it just comes to show that the adidas team did a good job on choosing the right colour and cut for last year’s Standard Chartered Marathon.

Of all the running event tees, this was my favourite too.

On a side note, I missed the deadline to sign up for the Sundown Marathon this year :( If you know somebody who might be pulling out of the Women’s 10k run, please drop me a message.

Foreboding Skies

March 15th, 2009 7 comments

It’s a beautiful day outside at the moment, I’m not joking when I say that I love it when the sky is an ominous grey! I guess it’s the howling winds, rustling leaves, fear of thunder lightening plus the anticipation of rain which makes this my #1 weather in Singapore.

We’re so used to googling the forecast, thought I’d share with you this cool article about predicting the weather.

One of my favourite-est shoots I’ve done so far was for a line of cocktail dresses by the talented Ee-lyn. Her line of dresses, carried under the label name yu, is feminine, sexy, simple chic, and wearable.

I admire her courage and perseverance to follow her dreams, quitting her job in the banking sector to pursue a design degree from Parsons School of Design in New York.

Check our her newly revamped website for her latest collection, or visit Trxilini at Millenia Walk to try out her dresses.

Chuck Norris can speak braille

March 11th, 2009 11 comments

I know I’m a bit late to blog about this, but the “Chuck Norris Facts” twitter page has been my source of comedy and laughter for the past few weeks.

On a side note, don’t you think Twitter has caught on again after a lull, and is now experiencing a second breath of life? I certainly feel it has. The micro-blogging platform has become such an internet phenomenon I’m surprised that companies are not utilising this social networking tool to their advantage as much as I liked.

Who’d guess that an abbreviated thought could be so powerful!

I feel that facebook status updates has actually helped spur that interest. And the integration of platforms by using tools like facebook applications has definitely help make it alot more user friendly for twits like me. I’m currently using TwitterFox on my Firefox, and the Twitter application on my Facebook. Ok enough geek talk.

Am loving the “twits” I’m following, if you want to follow my mundane tweets :) , the link to my twitter page is on the top right corner of this blog.

Anyway, back to Chuck.

In late 2005, Norris became the object of an internet phenomenon known as “Chuck Norris Facts“, which document fictional, often absurdly heroic feats and characteristics about Norris himself. -from wikipedia

Here’s a few of my fav CN Facts that has helped me get through those long days:

  • Chuck Norris only needs one hand to clap it
  • If you have five dollars and Chuck Norris has five dollars, Chuck Norris has more money than you
  • There is no ‘ctrl’ button on Chuck Norris’s computer. Chuck Norris is always in control
  • Chuck Norris can lead a horse to water AND make it drink
  • Chuck Norris does not get frostbite. Chuck Norris bites frost
  • Chuck Norris can speak braille
  • Chuck Norris is the only person that can punch a cyclops between the eye
  • It takes Chuck Norris 20 minutes to watch 60 Minutes
  • Apple pays Chuck Norris 99 cents every time he listens to a song
  • Chuck Norris is not Politically Correct. He is just Correct. Always
  • Chuck Norris knows the last digit of pi

Here’s something I found on someone’s blog:

Go to google.com and type “Find Chuck Norris” in the search box. Do not click the ‘Google Search’ button or press ‘Enter’ on your keyboard.

Now take a deep breath and wipe that sweat from your brow, then slowly move the mouse pointer until it’s directly over the “I’m feeling lucky” button, and press it.

If you are still alive to tell the tale, please leave a comment.

International Women’s Day 2009

March 9th, 2009 10 comments

In conjunction with yesterday’s International Women’s Day 2009, I’d like to share with you an article published for Strong magazine.

After reading that article again, I just want to say that I’m no super woman nor am I perfect. Am just a 26 year old girl living in Singapore, sharing the joys and perils of life with voyeurs, family and friends. I’m not a poster girl, model or celebrity, but your friend, daughter, lover and colleague.

Being a brand ambassador for a sports brand is not about being thin, it’s about being a sports enthusiast and living a healthy, balanced life. I think the fact that I struggle with weight makes me as human as you are, and I hope that you can relate to my experiences i share with you.

A big thank you to Sheralyn who carried out the interview and arranged for the photoshoot.

Unconditional love

March 3rd, 2009 19 comments

I knew what was going to happen, and I tried my best to be emotionally prepare for this movie. In hindsight, I wish I brought some tissue instead of using my cardigan as a snort cloth. I blogged about the book “Marley & Me” about two years back, so you can imagine how excited i was when they announced the production of the movie.

If you love dogs, or had a dog that has past, this movie will definitely tug on your heart strings. Till today, I still miss Flicka very much.

Still on the movie, I heard a beautiful BEAUTIFUL rendition of a Kurt Cobain song “Lithium” redone by this guy called Bruce Lash. Had to get it. I’ve uploaded it onto my playlist on the right for you to listen to.

You heard it here first.
