Angela, thanks for sharing the article. I’ve been a longtime reader of your blog and you seem to live a very full and well-rounded life surrounded by great friends and family. Maybe it’s the self-confidence and the independence that this instills in a person which can promote progress among women in society.

By the way, I didn’t know you are so well recognized in Singapore. Was it your blog that first attracted people’s attention or your work in commercial and print ads?

re: previous entry – not that what you were saying was guy related, but just wanted to say my fiance and i broke up six months ago and not that he wasn’t a great guy…i feel at peace with my decision and it’s great to be single again after so many years and focus/develop myself again…coz was too comfortable and stuff before.

I don’t need international men’s day in order to celebrate the equality. But I would not mind an International Humanity Day (or is there such a thing already) to celebrate the equality among genders, not because men or women ‘achieved much more (than who?)’, but merely because there are no barriers between men and women in making the daily decisions. It does not matter to me if the legal system is designed by men or women, as long as it’s designed to work for all people. It still seems to me you have issues the legal system is designed by men and could it be the legal system is not working for women in Singapore?

You should have an international men’s day. Since the legal system was designed by men, it should be no problem to get one. I think it’s nice to celebrate being able to vote and not being counted as ‘property’ or chattel. It’s a celebration about being acknowledged as equals. It’s not a day to brag about who’s better. Who’s to say that men can’t celebrate this as well. It’s a touchy subject. We all excel in our own ways. But even though in the ‘developed’ world women have achieved much there are many that are still viewed as second class in many other societies. I think of it as remembering those that still don’t have what I take for granted.

Is there a need for International Women’s Day to celebrate the economic, political and social achievements of women if all things being considered equal, because there are no International Men’s Day. Men don’t celebrate their achivements over women this way. We all play our own part in this world and the part is being the best of what we can be.
