To my best friend of 20 years,

Your Birthday is a special day, meant for you to do all of the things you enjoy doing. Hope you had as much fun as I did at the Rose Veranda.

With hugs and special wishes, here’s hoping you have a wonderful Birthday month! Love you!

Homemade Tacos… sort of

July 23rd, 2009 4 comments

I say sort of, because really, there isn’t much work to be done.

Go to the supermarket, buy the Taco sauce, Taco shells, Taco seasoning (optional), Lettuce, Tomatoes, mince beef/chicken, Avocado, Cheese.

The only cooking you have to do is frying the mince beef/chicken, and heating up the Taco shells. The rest just needs to be chopped up and put aside.

Without cheese

I remember how upset I was when he cancelled his concert in Singapore a few years back.

Haven’t listened to his music for awhile now, but today while browsing through YouTube, I was reminded why I loved him. It was refreshing. Spent a good hour surfing through his amazing live sets.

Listening to his songs this time round was different. I felt it spoke out to me on a deeper level. There are songs that represent certain moments in your life. Today, right now, it’s this.

Live @ Knebworth has to be one of his best live concerts.

Cova Pasticceria

July 14th, 2009 9 comments

My coffee craving one saturday afternoon led me to a new cafe in Paragon called Cova. The “V” in the logo wasn’t distinct, so for a good 10mins (until I verified it with the waitress), I thought the place was called “Coya”.

COVA Pasticceria – Confetteria heritage dates back to 1817 when it was founded in Milan by Antonio Cova. Specialising in coffee, pastries, cakes and chocolates, their flagship cafe is situated on the famous fashion street of Via Montenapoleone in Milan, Italy.

At Paragon, setting and ambience was kept classy but casual.

At Cova, we ordered some mini pâtisserie to go along with our drinks. As wonderful as it looks on picture, the taste was dissapointing and left me unsatisfied. Should have just walked downstairs to Canelé and ordered a Chocolate royale instead. :)

I judge a cafe on their ability to make the perfect latte. It’s all about the coffee grounds, aroma, temperature and the right amount of foam.

Alot of places don’t tamp their grounds hard enough, or don’t start their shots immediately giving it a burnt taste. But the part that gets to me the most is the temperature of the milk and how much foam there is. Sometimes it looks like i ended up with a flat white or a cappuccino. Thankfully, Cova’s saving grace was the perfect latte.

Please help Charmaine

July 3rd, 2009 5 comments

I recently received an email from an old friend from university, and as much as I was happy to hear from her, she brought about heartbreaking news of a relative of hers.

Her husband’s niece has contracted a rare cancer called neuroblastoma, and is currently in the 4th stage and fighting hard undergoing treatment at the National University Hospital (NUH). This little girl’s name is Charmaine and I hope you can find it in your heart to help.

They need to raise 500k to fund her treatment in the USA which gives her a 40-50% chance of survival.

My days left on earth are ticking, and I feel unaccomplished and dissatisfied with the contribution I’ve made to help someone in need. A little girl shouldn’t have to go through so much pain. I’ve decided to contribute to her medical expenses, and i really really hope Charmaine gets better.

Feisty Char needs bullets to fight!
