Oktoberfest 2009

October 22nd, 2009

Went for my first Singapore Oktoberfest 2 weeks back at the Swiss Club. It was so hard to get a ticket, but luckily a few spots opened up a few days before! Lesson learnt, book early next time.

Oktoberfest was a riot! I absolutely loved it! And a lot of it had to do with the company. It was great to see old friends and meet new ones. I’m so glad I brought my DSLR along. Although it was a real pain to carry around, the pictures were well worth it.

Nat, Kim and I had bootcamp earlier in the day, so three of us rocked up pretty late at around 8:30pm. But that’s ok, the party went on till late.

Here’s the low-down. It’s basically a heuuugee tent lined with benches and tables with food stations on either ends of the tent. When you walk in, first things first, go get your beer coupon. It’s much easier just buying a booklet of coupons, because they finish pretty fast :)

Food-wise I stuck to sausages and pork knuckle with loads of honey mustard (my fav), washed down nicely with a mug (or two…or three) of Erdinger beer. There goes the calories burnt at bootcamp!

I loved how so many people were dressed up for the occasion, guys in their tight shorts+suspenders and girls as frolines! Towards the end of the night, everyone in the tent was dancing on the table tops! It’s amazing how much stress and weight those tables can take, I’m sure they took that into consideration when sourcing for tables :)

Till next year… Prost!

    Hi, you mentioned bootcamp. Was just curious if it’s an exercise bootcamp? If so, where is this? Thanks.

    it’s not that i m racist or anything. but i m just not used to mingling with caucasians, generally speaking. so when there is a party in a western club, with alot of westerners, it naturally puts off people like me to go for such events.

    I think it was $40 per session, i cant remember. But there’s resistance, cardio – basically 1hr of non-stop exercise

    @TAN
    meet cool ppl? who is cool?

    @derek @guerrrilla
    There were asians too, don’t know why. maybe it doesn’t appeal to the singaporeans? It’s all word of mouth to be honest.And it’s only fun when you get a big group of your friends to go. derek, i know what you mean. I think it just takes time to understand each side’s humour.

    @Jolly
    Hey jolly, sure thing. Ill send you his number tonight.

    Angela, dont forget to come back again for another blast at the Swiss Club. If you want the entrance tickets earlier, get your company to sponsor the event. sponsors get priority on selecting the best seats! until then reach the marketing manager for more information. you dont want to miss it. Prost!

    @Anggun Nada
    I don’t think my company would sponsor. We’re too tiny :) Plus, i usually go with friends not colleagues :D But that’s for the heads up anyway!
