[Memory Box] Homemade Story Book

January 3rd, 2012 1 comment

When I was a kid, my sister MADE me a story book. She wrote and drew every single thing in it, and looking back, it’s one of the most precious thing she has ever done for me. She was so good to me! Love you Jie Jie.

[Memory Box] Sweet 16 Birthday Card

December 27th, 2011 1 comment

When I was younger, my sister used to tell me I was picked up from the rubbish bin. Here’s a birthday card from her I found in my memory box, sent to me when she was studying in Melbourne.

*I had to blur the family nickname given to me to save myself from public humiliation for the rest of my life!

When is ‘POP’ day #2

January 30th, 2011 35 comments

Ok… it’s that time again for the ‘POP’ day poll! We did this last year with about 101 votes cast.

Jie Jie’s ex-colleagues have already put in their coke bets for #2. Basically their wage is a can of coke. So if there are 9 of them, the one who guesses the right date gets 8 cans of coke.
Cans of Coke
Doctor has given the 12th February as THE day for Benjamin to be born, but it’s always + – 1 week. The poll is back and I’m going to throw in a bit of fun this year.

This pregnancy has been a bit different from the last, Jie Jie has been craving sweet stuff like ice-cream! So I’ve decided to give away 3 tubs of Ben & Jerry’s ice-cream to whoever guesses the correct ‘POP’ day! I know there will be quite a few names for each date, but when that day comes, I will get my sister to pick out a winner from a bag.

Step 1: Submit vote on the poll below.

Step 2: Leave a comment on this post and repeat your answer.

Don’t forget to leave your name and valid email address in the fields or I won’t know how to contact you!

Polls will close on POP day. Any votes cast after then will be not included into the draw. Contest only opened to those living in Singapore for obvious reasons.

[Jules Update] Last year’s baby face

January 19th, 2011 No comments

The lil fella is growing up so fast, every week he surprises me with his intelligence and abnormal growth spurts. He is only 2 1/2 and he can’t fit into trousers of a 4 year old!

Here are two photos of Jie Jie and Jules taken last year at Jalan Kebaya.

Baby names for #2

December 10th, 2010 1 comment

2 years back I did a fun little poll on when Julian’s birth date was. Let’s do something different for now. BABY NAMES!

Jie Jie and Kevin are debating all sorts of names for baby #2 due in February. Irish, Jewish, unusual, common, long, short.

The ones I liked were: Liam, Benjamin, Jamie, Jared, Oliver.

Here’s the poll with our choices narrowed down. Choose your favourite from our list, or you can suggest one as well.

Things to note when suggesting a name:

  • Do note his surname would be Wong. So make sure it sounds right, if not the poor kid is going to be made fun of in school later on. Example: No names such as Magic!
  • Because it’s a one syllable surname, one syllable first names don’t sound as nice.
  • Please don’t try to be different by spelling names differently like Benjamynn, Jaredh, or anything fancy. Keep it simple.
  • No geek names like alphonsus, theodore, alfafa (no offence)
  • Please no silly names like Batman.

A British study of 3,000 parents released in May suggests one-in-five parents regret the name they chose for a child, many of whom were distressed over the unusual or oddly spelled names they’d chosen.

Jungle Book

When we were young, my dad would set up the home Cine projector for Jie Jie and I, and our favourite movie on reel was The Jungle book.

Here’s our two favourite songs from the film.

Jules update

April 6th, 2009 Comments off

Just a picture post of Jules & Georgie! No I don’t call my sister by her first name, but it has a nice ring to it for those of you who do.

Come on, come out already!!

October 19th, 2008 32 comments

So my sister is currently in labour, and i’m here to provide updates to friends and family who might read my blog.

I’m in the waiting area because they don’t allow anyone else besides husbands in the room. There’s no filming either, but Kevin has a camera there with him.

We were suppose to have a Dim Sum lunch today at Red Star on Chin Swee Road. Just before we left the house, my sister called and said she might need to drop by the clinic just for a check.

So My dad, mum and I headed for lunch first while she went in for a check.

After lunch was done, Kevin says…….. SHE IS READY TO HAVE THE BABY!!

So we went home to pack our stuff (computer, books, cameras, magazines) and headed to the hospital.

So here I am, waiting for updates from Kevin. Last update, she was doing fine, they are expecting the ‘fun’ to happen later tonight. Will keep updating this blog as an when I know what’s happening.

Update: 7:10pm
Contraction more intense now. But still awhile to go. Met the doctor at the lift lobby, she said it will most likely be a 19th baby (I WIN!) Think she has gone for dinner, poor jie jie is not allowed to eat or drink, part of the process.

Update: 8:00pm
Parentals have arrived. Mumsy reading and Daddy brought his laptop to do some work.

Update: 8:16pm
SMS from Kevin: Pushing

Update: 8:50pm
Kevin came out with camera in hand. Welcome to the world Julian Wong. Healthy baby boy, 3.69kg.

Here’s our convo this morning:

Georgina says:
My colleagues have already placed their bets! Ginny might lose today…hers is for today

Georgina says:
they are were casually asking… “sooo…. how did the doctor’s visit go…”

Georgina says:
I said hey no insider trading!

Angela (安琪儿) says:
AHHAHAHAHAHH ROFL

So I thought I’d start a lil poll on this blog……

Airhead

September 22nd, 2008 10 comments

This post is for my “mummy-to-be” sister.
Jie Jie, remember we were talking about this at lunch? Yes… you did tell us about it… Yes I’m sure you did…

Forgetfulness
Didn’t realize that feeling like a ditz was part of being pregnant? Here’s why you’ve suddenly become an airhead, and what you can do about it.

What it is: Pregnancy-induced brain fog, a true (and truly frustrating) hallmark of pregnancy. You may forget appointments, what you just walked into the store for, where you left your purse, whether you turned off the stove — and maybe, your phone number.

What causes it: As usual in pregnancy, it’s just your hormones having some fun, this time at the expense of your memory. And believe it or not, your brain-cell volume actually decreases during the third trimester of pregnancy (which could explain why you can’t remember what you just read about in that last paragraph). Not to worry, your brain will plump back up a few months after delivery.

What you need to know about it: First of all, pregnancy forgetfulness is completely normal — and extremely common. It’s also temporary — you’ll have total recall again long before you start to have your “senior moments.” And try not to be too hard on yourself, as stress will only cloud your brain even more.

What you can do about forgetfulness:
* Write it down. If you really need to remember something — an appointment or to take your prenatal vitamin, for example — leave a big note in an obvious place. You might also stash a notepad and pen in easy-to-remember spots like your purse, your car, and your bathroom.
* Turn high tech — using your Palm Pilot, Blackberry, laptop, or other electronic organizer to help keep you, well, organized and less forgetful.
* Reduce the number of things you need to remember — cut down on what you’re responsible for by delegating some jobs to others. Easier said than done, but worth a go. (You’ll forget about the less important stuff, anyway.)
* Have a sense of humor about this airhead stage and encourage your partner to do the same. Who cares if you left the car keys in the refrigerator?
* Forget about taking the herbal supplement gingko biloba. This “memory-booster” has not been proven safe for use during pregnancy.
* Expect the haze to hang in during the first weeks after you give birth. Fatigue may take the place of hormones as the primary culprit, but that too shall pass.

Kevin, Jie jie +1

May 9th, 2008 19 comments

I’ve heard a lot of stories on the severity of sibling rivalry; the screaming, fist fights, hair pulling, scratches and vulgarities. Me and my sister just never went through all that?! Is that weird? Maybe it’s the age difference? Or maybe it’s the threat of ‘the teng tiao’ that hangs in the back kitchen with the brooms. Dang danggg!!

Anyway, I’ve always had a lot of respect for my sister growing up; she was definitely miss goodie-two-shoes in the family. The one that read more books, didn’t get into too much trouble and did better in school.

Looking back, I couldn’t have asked for a better sister. There’s no one else I’d rather do the egyptian walk around the house with, that was our thang. We’re such goofballs. I’m completely myself around her…

So I’ve wanted to post this draft for the longest time, but wanted to make sure I had the go ahead before doing so. A few weeks back, we celebrated my mum’s birthday as usual with a family dinner at home.
