Another Kiara weekend

June 18th, 2010 Comments off

Another post which was lost in the drafts. Bear in mind this was written in 2008 when I was still with Wayne and still DH-ing! Both not the case anymore.

Everyone knows there aren’t any mountains to climb in Singapore, all we’ve got is Bukit Timah Hill, just 164m above sea water! sadface.

Not that I don’t enjoy it, I do, but sometimes you need to throw something different into the mix. To get that fix, Wayne, Leon, Lai, Ian and I headed up to Kiara KL, again.

This is the most we’ve ever travelled for mountain biking, think it has been four trips.

This time round, we brought up the Turner RFX for me to use, because I should start getting used to the bike if I was going to go slightly harder.

After this trip, I have to confess I have a problem. I’m scared.

Ever since I endovered the last time at Kiara, it’s never been the same. I’m constantly filled with apprehension and anxiety. All of which spells disaster if you’re carrying that fear.

The thing about doing drops and berms, you’ve got to be mentally prepped, unfortunately I’m having a lot of trouble conquering that mental block.

It’s been months since I last did any downhill riding, and I fear I’ve lost the “Gung-Ho-ness” after that spill.

Is this the end?

The two crazy boys Ian and Ben make everything look damn easy.

Leon’s first trip to Kiara.

At Angel drop, Kiara.

My best shot of Wayne, taken with the Canon SLR.

Note: If you’re going to Kiara, wear something you bought in Singapore. Possibility of wearing same shirt as your friend from Kiara: HIGH.

Half way through the afternoon, I was so ready to sleep.

Mt Kiara DH Clinic

April 10th, 2008 4 comments

Over the weekend, Wayne, I and the OMJs headed up to KL for a skillz clinic with Adam at Mt Kiara. Was feeling quite outnumbered during this whole trip, maybe because I was the only girl in the trail. But it’s no surprise really, I’ve always in general got along with boys better than girls.

I shall try to keep the text short, in summary, I had a great time in Kiara (maybe minus the ‘scenic route’ we took at TTDI!) Here’s a few photos which rounds up the DH Clinic. Thanks 6065 for all your little tips and tricks ;)

Learning to lean into turns, weight distribution, stance and trusting your bike.

Applying the skills learnt. Definitely came in useful at this berm on the downhill.

There were lots of casualties on this trip too. I can’t remember who’s wheelset was this, but they had to take out the wheel and bang it on the ground to straighten it out.

Let me try to remember:
- 2 flats
- 1 warped wheelset
- 1 broken camera
- Crashes from Mark, Sahni, myk, John, Jeff, Ian
- 2 tree huggers
- 1 broken ego

All the boys chilling at the mid way point. Just up the hill was a 3-ish foot drop, and when I decided to do it, apparently Wayne and Jeff were crossing their fingers and mumbling under their breath “please…please…don’t fall…make it…please please please”… HAHahHA thought that was hilarious! Apparently the boys at Gangsa were doing that before my 5ft drop as well. It’s like I have a bunch of big brothers looking out for me.

A very pooped me after climbing the tarmac hill non-stop, then climbing more in the trails, and after a few runs down hill, and climbing back up. “What goes up, must come down.”

Sahni and Mark having an ‘intimate’ moment on that climb. Sahni bumping into Mark’s behind, crashed and held on to each other before their legs cramped and fell as pictured. ROFL, I just stood on the other side laughing at them.

Wayne psyching himself up to do the 8ft drop… that didn’t exactly ‘go down’ too well.

Our ‘老师’ Adam… Young and Dangerous.

The other two 6065. Whoop!

*Update
Forgot to mention Wayne’s crash. He attempted the 8 ft drop near the carpark, didn’t land the jump well and headed for a tree. He’s ok, just bruised on the sides, Swollen shoulder with abrasion and scratches on his back, both arms, thigh and waist. *pat pat pat* poor thing.
